For every family photo session I do, I want to try and make sure I capture you as a family in all your glorious uniqueness. One of the reasons my photos are rarely ever 'posed' or featuring kids looking like porcelain dolls is because I want to show who they are - their personality, their quirks and how you would want to look back and remember them. Cheekiness and all.
I've been having a ponder and I've come up with a few different scenarios which I think would give some amazing family photo opportunities as well as a few things you could do on any day to make things a little bit more interesting and get those lovely authentic reactions from the family.
People close up a little but when there is a camera around - it's only natural. We start to worry about our hair, whether our bum looks big, how tidy the house is and we tend to act more reserved as we worry about how we are going to look in the pictures. Having something to do while on a photo session and distracting your thoughts away from 'oh help, I'm being photographed SMILE' is always a winner.
Welcoming a new pet into the family. Puppies, cats, hamsters, rabbits, fish. These all make for some really interesting photos that are unique memories for you.
Baking a cake - Because who doesn't like doing a bit of baking? As well as making awesome floury, multicoloured and sugar coated photos you also get to eat the cake / baked goods at the end so it's win win.
Trips out - Taking the family to Birdworld? Going to the beach? Perhaps even down to the local garden centre to play in the ball pit? Visiting the London Aquarium or a cool museum?
Building a blanket fort - Whether you are outside in the garden using the washing line and bedsheets or in the living room with sofa cushions and stuffed animals it's a carefree bit of fun that everyone can enjoy for a while.
The dressing up basket - Who doesn't love a little bit of dress up? Let them walk around dressed as the Gruffalo with high heels and pearls or pick out their own fairly radical (and weirdly fantastic) outfit for the day.
I have loads more ideas that I would love to share with you. Drop me a message here to get started in booking your own family photographs.
Have a fantastic weekend,
